Overview
The Rheumatology Fellowship Program at Duke University Medical Center combines rigorous clinical training with opportunities to pursue a program in clinical or basic science research. A primary strength of the Duke program is the ability to tailor the training experience to allow fellows to pursue successful careers in academia, clinical practice, and the pharmaceutical industry. Graduates of the Duke training program have achieved positions of leadership and distinction in virtually all fields related to rheumatology.
The first year of fellowship training comprises three components: 1) 4-5 half-day continuity clinics per week, 2) eight months of inpatient consultation service at Duke Hospital and the Durham VA Medical Center, and 3) a comprehensive didactic curriculum in the clinical and basic sciences of rheumatology. After the first year, fellows may pursue research training in the laboratory or the clinic under the direction of an established faculty mentor. Senior fellows provide ongoing care for patients in a continuity clinic one full day each week, and participate in the didactic curriculum of the Division.
